Locking Dance Moves
Usually when The Lockers would take part in performances on a wide variety of stages they would have some movements that they would do in unison but their performances were based largely around individual solos.
So each dancer would come out and do their own solo and showcase their own style. There were often other theatrical elements to it as well and the performances could also involve other props like chairs.
The dance moves that the dancers performed could also be performed in different ways and the dancers would often do different variations of the same move with small differences.
Even different members of The Lockers doing the same move could look different. For example they could all do something as simple as a point using different methods.
It is worth remembering this when deciding to learn locking dance moves or attending dance classes. There are different locking teachers who in turn have learnt from different lockers.
So what they teach you may be different from another locking teacher or a different variation. The important thing is that the basic technique is ok and the dancer knows what locking is first and foremost.
Some dancers have also remarked that they have attended classes by members of the original Lockers dance crew and noticed how even the original dancers taught the same moves differently.
However this isn't actually particularly surprising when you watch footage of them dancing and notice how different they all looked. They were all soloists and danced in different ways.
Much of what a dancer will learn when taking up locking will be the style of the dance as well as the moves so that they have a good foundation, base, knowledge or whatever they decide to call it.
They must know locking and what it is and then they can bring their own style and way of doing things to the table as well.
