Locking Costume
Kneepads should also be worn in practise as well to avoid damaging the knees from frequent contact with the ground.
Nothing worse than preparing for a performance only to find out on the day that you can't perform because your knees hurt too much from practising too much!
If you can't manage knee pads then try and protect your knees with an alternative arrangement, for example some old cloths wrapped around the knee.
Knee pads are really an essential purchase though for health and safety reasons if you intend to do moves that involve the knees. If you don't plan on doing much of that then you should be ok.
The costume itself can be worn in a wide array of colours. What do you like red, yellow, blue, black and white?
For footwear dancers may decide to wear shoes or trainers depending on their preference. The shoes may have softer soles like in trainers in order to make it easier to dance in.
Those who use locking in their performances rather than doing all locking performances may wear other costumes entirely.
For example if it is a hip hop dance crew that is incorporating locking routines into their choreography then they may be decked out in hip hop clothing or their own crew costumes.
Or if there is enough time or the show/ performance is long enough then they may have time to change into a locking costume in time for that section.
It may take a bit of time to change into because those socks take a while to pull up!
